Swisscom has selected the top 10 tech startups in the Swisscom StartUp Challenge. The shortlist will be narrowed down to five through public voting. Five best startups will join a five-day acceleration programme in Silicon Valley.

«Best of Swiss Apps»: die Anmeldefrist läuft

 

Im November werden zum sechsten Mal die besten Schweizer Apps ausgezeichnet. App-Projekte können ab sofort in zehn Kategorien wie «Games» oder «Mixed, Augmented & Virtual Reality» eingereicht werden. Anmeldeschluss ist der 10. September.

Federal Council appoints Martina Hirayama as new SERI State Secretary

 

Martina Hirayama will head the State Secretary for Education, Research and Innovation from January 2019. She is dean of the ZHAW School of Engineering and serves as vice-president of the board of Innosusuisse. She had also co-founded an ETH Zurich spin-off in new coating technologies, and has been CEO of the company until 2008.

Glycemicon founder Nadja Mrosek named Female innovator of the year

 

More than 200 women gathered at the Female innovation forum to celebrate the accomplishments of female entrepreneurs. Two startups swept away awards: Master 21 received the Recognition Award while Glycemicon won the Female Innovator of the year prize.

VR startup Weavr acquired by Bitforge

 

Bitforge, the developer of in-house software for mobile devices has acquired Weavr, a Zurich based startup that developed a platform for curating VR stories based on user’s photos and videos. With the acquisition, Bitforge is now addressing the mass market.
