Zurich-based startups undergo C-level changes

Five startups in the fields of smart aviation, life sciences, AI-powered medtech and consumer experience announce new C-level appointments with experienced personalities whose startup and business acumen promise to bring success. 

TINAMU is a drone software provider, enabling drones to fly indoor autonomously without any need for a pilot to provide digital inventory data for bulk material, logistic and production excellence of bulk material supply chains. The startup serves customers across Europe and Switzerland and aims to broaden its operations worldwide. With this transition into the growth phase under way, the startup has appointed Thomas Götschmann as new CEO (Picture top left). Thomas, a 43-year-old serial entrepreneur and experienced company builder, started his career in Corporate Finance / M&A at EY and Management Consulting at BCG. From 2019 to 2022, he successfully built global operations for Swiss startup Auterion, which provides a drone operating system. The ETH spin-off has so far been led by Tobias Nägeli, who comments: "Thomas is the ideal leader to accelerate TINAMU's growth strategy and foster the development of a scalable organization." Tobias will take over the CTO/CPO role and focus on his passion to develop innovative products. 

Schlieren-based Athebio AG appoints new CEO
Biotech startup Athebio, which develops custom-built designed ankyrin repeat proteins (i.e., Athebody DARPins) enabling drug developers to generate next-generation therapeutics, appointed Thomas Huber as new CEO (centre, top). Thomas brings a unique blend of scientific expertise and corporate leadership to the helm of the organization. He has held key positions at Novartis, Almirall, and biotech incubator Ridgeline Discovery. During his tenure at these organizations, Thomas played a pivotal role in enabling and advancing drug discovery programs, shaping corporate strategy, and leveraging his deep understanding of both scientific principles and business dynamics.  Patrik, who has served as CEO since the company's inception, will transition to the role of Acting Chief Scientific Officer (CSO), in addition to his position as Chairman of the Board. 

Leading developer of AI for aviation hires new CEO
Zurich-based startup Daedalean AI welcomes Bas Gouverneur as new CEO to lead the company’s commercial strategy (bottom left). The company is pioneering in the development of AI software for autonomous flight control in civil aviation and urban mobility. Advanced flight control software in the air brings more safety to a space that has long been dependent on a purely human-controlled cockpit. Bas will join Daedalean after a four-year tenure at Swiss aviation technology leader RUAG, where he most recently served as its Chief Technology Officer, focusing on the strategic planning and execution of the company’s technological innovations. Daedalean’s current CEO and co-founder, Dr. Luuk van Dijk, will continue to play an active role in the company’s long-term development as Executive Chairman of the Board, with a focus on key technical projects. Bas will lead the company’s commercial strategy, supported by the newly hired Vice President of Product, Dr. Joschka Hoefling. 

Stefan Tuchschmid launches Scanvio Medical 
Incorporated in May 2024, the ETH spinoff Scanvio Medical develops an AI-augmented ultrasound software for faster endometriosis diagnosis in women. Their cutting-edge technology utilizes intelligent algorithms to assist gynecologists in detecting endometriosis more accurately and efficiently. CEO and founder of Scanvio is Stefan Tuchschmid (bottom, centre). After more than 15 years as co-founder of VirtaMed, a Schlieren-based company offering surgical simulators for medical education, Stefan is enthusiastic to bring AI-assisted ultrasound forward - for much earlier diagnosis at the first gynecologic examination. 

Expeerly welcomes two new co-founders
Founded in 2023, Expeerly is a Zurich-based startup that developed a platform which supports businesses to collect, curate, and share authentic, high-quality video content from their customers, employees, and partners, to boost their sales with video reviews. Over 50 brands and marketplaces work with Expeerly and take advantage of video without having to worry about production, editing and distribution. The founder, Lea von Bidder, welcomed two new co-founders with startup experience to the management team. Oliver Arber has been active in the Zurich startup scene having worked at ETH spinoff Beekeeper for five years before joining Peakora, a startup consultancy, as Sales Lead & Partner in January 2023. Besides his role as co-founder, he will be responsible for Sales and Customer Success at Expeerly. The second new co-founder is Philipp Schwendimann, who also took over the position of Head of Product and Technology in May 2024 after being Product Manager at Expeerly for a year. (picture: right)
