Wanted: Innovative solutions at Hackathons and Startup weekends

 

Hackathon and Startup Weekends offer a platform for developing new and creative solutions to real questions or challenges on a given topic within a certain period. The compilation below provides an overview of events with open registration.

 

Beer Hackathon, 14 to 15 April 2018
Feldschlösschen and the Swiss Startup Factory are organising the first Beer Hackathon of Europe. The event will inspire developers to focus on performance and concepts, not just functionality. Participates will generate and develop solutions for the three given topics: Digital Solutions, Product Market Solutions and Experience Solutions. Three winners will each receive 3’000 CHF and participate in the Swiss Startup Factory Accelerator, a three month program aiming to bring their idea to reality.

Hack The HR!, Genéve – 27 to 29 April 2018
The Shared Brain and Axium join forces to make you live the first HR Hackathon. Participants will meet other participants from the HR profession, Entrepreneurs, designers, developers, hackers, students, and likeminded people looking to change HR. In teams of five, attendees will Hack Human Resources and find the most innovative solutions and ideas within 48 hours with the support of coaches and mentors. They will develop a prototype or concept that they present to the jury.

Hack  the City, Lugano – 27 to 29 April, 2018
Hack the City is the official hackathon of the Italian speaking Switzerland. During the 48-hour event, developers, designers, makers and technology and innovation enthusiasts will collaborate intensively on projects and compete in teams to showcase their talents and to find creative and impacting solutions to everyday problems. This year, attendees will not have an assigned theme. Any kind of idea or project is may be submitted. Sponsors will also issue topics on the fields of Fintech, original mobile app solutions, blockchain and IoT. Three most outstanding solutions will be awarded a money prizes of CHF 5’000, CHF 2’500 and CHF 1’000.

Hack'n'Lead: a women centered Hackathon, Zurich – 16 to 17 June 2018
Hack'n'Lead seeks to encourage more women to participate in hackathons. Teams of 2-5 people work together on the provided challenges or their own ideas. They will benefit from preparatory technological workshops and support from mentors as they work on their projects. Additionally, the Hack'n'Lead team offers a safe place and childcare in partnership with local childcare facilities in order to provide support for women with children.

BernHäckt, Bern– 24 to 26 August 2018
Initiators of BernHäckt bring together creative students and proven IT experts with innovative companies. As so-called "hackers" at BärnHäckt, students and experts from the fields of information technology have the opportunity to apply the latest technologies in practice, meet new people and make contact with innovative companies. Companies have the opportunity to enter their own questions as a "challenge" at BärnHäckt which participants will find solutions for within 48 hours.

Smart City Day, Fribourg, 13 September 2018
Digitalisation affects all the structures of societies, especially the cities. This technological revolution has given rise to the concept of "intelligent cities", more efficient and more comfortable, for the well-being of citizens. As an active innovation consultancy for over 15 years, Innobridge launched Smart City Day to catalyse smart cities developments in French-speaking Switzerland. This year Innobridge brings together decision-makers from municipalities and cantons, business and academia with the aim of strengthening the Innovation / Start Up area by promoting good collaboration with the three partner-platforms; CleantechAlps, AlpICT and Micronarc. Participants will receive support in a dedicated afternoon of workshops and innovative projects.

HackZurich, Zurich – 14 to 16 September
HackZurich features as part of the Digital Festival. Over 550 international participants from more than 60 countries participate in the event to find solutions over the course of 40 hours. In teams, they develop highly innovative prototypes for web, mobile and desktop applications.

Startup Weekends
Startup Weekend is a global network of passionate leaders and entrepreneurs on a mission to inspire, educate, and empower individuals, teams and communities. Within 54 hours, teams together with coaches work to transform their business ideas into real business case. These are later present to the jury at the end of the event. Startup Weekends offer an ideal environment to test, validate and get feedback on ideas as participants take the first steps towards launching a startup.
