Upscale Interiors has expanded to Germany by taking over assets of the Berlin-based startup 99chairs, after the latter was declared insolvent in June 2018. 99chairs was offering online interior design solutions to customers such as Daimler Benz, Factory Berlin, Boehringer, Outfittery, Biontech or Uber.
As part of the acquisition, which was backed by entrepreneur and business angel Oliver Holy, Upscale will retain the seven employees from 99Chairs to join its new employees in Berlin-Mitte.
In the new market, Upscale aims to digitalize the furnishing consultation to enable customers to specify their design preferences with just a few questions. From an uploaded floor plan, the designers of Upscale create a 3D representation of the possible structure and concrete pieces of furniture. Target customers are start-ups, incubators and established companies that might be curious about these services. In the future, projects with private individuals in Germany could also be set up, which have already been implemented in Switzerland.
Upscale has grown exponentially after only two years in the market. The startup landed international projects and gained experience abroad. In Warsaw, for instance, Upscale took over the complete establishment of 30 furnished apartments with a curated art concept with local, contemporary young artists in the Skyscraper Zlota44 by star architect Daniel Libeskind.
Upscale's clients include larger real estate portfolio holders from Switzerland and Germany, groups, which have their incubators or offices set up, or project developers who efficiently furnish apartment units for rent out.
The new acquisition will hence allow Upscale to further flourish, as it conquers the German market.
