The Typewise keyboard app offers advanced autocorrection AI, and an optimised hexagonal layout, all of which reduces typos and increases typing speed – has been downloaded more than 1.3 million times globally. Due to the strong demand Typewise realised a 400% revenue growth year-on-year and das already 15'000 paying customers.
The keyboard is just phase one of the company’s vision to “decode human thoughts”. The Zurich-based company plan to use their custom-built autocorrect and text prediction AI technology to enter the lucrative B2B sector with a desktop product, as well as power millions more smartphone keyboards.
To finance the growth steps Typewise chose the equity crowdfunding platform Seedrs, an unconventional choice for a Swiss start-up. The possibility of an equity crowdfunding campaign came to the founders' minds after they were contacted by a user who could imagine putting a six-figure sum into their startup. David Eberle - Typewise CEO and Co-founder explains: "It was always important to my co-founder Janis Berneker and me to get investors on board who not only see the commercial potential but also think the idea and product behind it are cool. Through the enquiry, we realised that there were also investors among our users. So it was a natural step to invite our "fans" to a crowdfunding campaign."
People can now participate in Seedrs with a minimum investment of 10 euros. The campaign has been very well received. Meanwhile, 330 investors have already pledged over 1.1 million euros.
