The rebirth of group activities

WeWent is an online-based marketplace for group and team events established to ease the process of searching for and booking team events. The platform is ideal for corporate business companies or organisations that wish to engage their team in different team building activities. The startup launched its first event two weeks ago in Zurich.

Discovering something together or learning a new skill with colleagues and friends is the best way of connecting and getting to know each other. However, there is hardly a single place where companies, friends and families can organise and book activities in the short time. Bilge Apak and Aleksandra Potrykus hence developed the idea to create a platform that offers a wide range of team building- and group activities.

In 2015, the two founders participated in Startup Weekend Zurich to further develop the idea, get feedback and transform it into a feasible business. In the final pitching competition, the two founders won the third position for their idea «WeWent.com», and built their own startup, Nakama GmbH also known as WeWent.com.

Since the official launch in November 2016, WeWent currently has over 50 service providers offering varying group activities ranging from outdoor, cooking, challenges and games to music, sports and relaxation, adventure among others. Thanks to the variety, event organisers now have the possibility to find and book a suitable group activity without going through the strenuous process of searching and making several phone calls. The events are currently available in Switzerland and Germany.

"Listing my offer with WeWent helps me reach many more people eager to discover the world of healthy cooking and eating. With WeWent organizing a group event is easy, it saves me and the booker a lot of time and it is free”, says Connie, owner of Connie Kelly Nutrition.

Two weeks ago, the startup hosted an event in Zurich to bring together event/activity providers and bookers. Over 40 people attended the event to gather new experiences and learn more about the importance of human interaction. In their blog following the event, the startup highlights the significance of investing in experiences.

WeWent mainly caters for three different clients: (1) Corporate companies, to cater for the business needs by categorizing the events and workshops with the business solutions provided in 20 categories such as Creative, Media Production, Music & Rythm, Gourmet, Team Building and Ice-breakers, Mindful etc.; (2) for voluntary work,to help NGOs to publish their events for free (cleaning forest) and lets companies and families support a good cause by experiencing it as a group activity; and (3) for friends, families interested in bonding their relationship.

“We innovate the concept of team building and group events by turning them into real and unforgettable experiences. Committed to this message, we carefully choose our providers to ensure that they share our values and that they indeed provide unique experiences”, said Gisela Andrade, WeWent PR lead.
