The 2018 Game Developers Conference is a professional game industry event bringing together game designers, programmers, artists, producers, and business professionals for five days of education, inspiration and networking. The upcoming conference will take place on March 19-23, 2018 in San Francisco.
One of the highlights of the conference is the Best in Play award program for exhibitors. GDC Play provides emerging developers an opportunity to showcase their playable games to GDC attendees including distributors, publishers, press, and investors in the GDC Expo's over three days. A panel of veteran GDC organizers has selected eight games – based on their in-development and complete games by– to participate in the expo. Among them is the Swiss-made game Nimbatus -The Space Drone Constructor.
Developed by the Zurich based startup Stray Fawn studio, Nimbatus is a procedurally generated action simulation game. During the game, players build space drones out of hundreds of different parts and explore a fully destructible galaxy. Drones interact with the destructible environment in a physically correct manner. Along the journey, players will face deadly challenges on exotic planets and research ground-breaking new technology. Nimbatus is not the first game Stray Fawn brings to the GDC. Last year, the startup showcased the game Niche and was among the honourable mentions.
The founders of Stray Fawn (Micha Stettler and Philomena Schwab) and the other seven winers will each will receive 2 all Aacess passes to the 2019 Game Developers Conference, special ‘Best In Play’ designations they can attach to their table at GDC 2018, where their games will be playable by all GDC attendees.
