Innovative technologies for Europe lie in Switzerland

Various ICT and Medtech technologies were recognised for their innovativeness, and impact on the economy and society in different award competitions across Europe and beyond. Eleven Swiss startups delivered outstanding pitches and won prizes.

Digital Republic AG | '5G MVNO of the Year'| Germany
During the MVNO World Congress 2022 in Berlin, various companies received awards to recognise the achievements and innovations in the MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator) industry over the past 12 months. Swiss startup Digital Republic swept away the category prize 5G MVNO of the Year. The Zurich-based startup specialises in the Internet of Things (IoT) and machine-to-machine (M2M) communication. It offers IoT-compatible SIM cards to allow customers to connect their devices to the internet.

Veezoo |BARC Start-up Award 2022 | Germany
Analyst firm BARC chose Veezoo as the winner out of 20 young analytics companies in the DACH area during the Big Data & AI World conference in Frankfurt. BARC honours start-ups that have developed innovative software in the analytics area. The ETH spinoff convinced the jury with its advanced natural language querying possibilities. Founded in 2016, the startup built an analytics system that understands users’ domain, data, and questions and provides them with answers in the most understandable way.

Xorlab | CyberTech100 | global
xorlab has been selected in the 2022 CyberTech100 list of the world’s most innovative CyberTech companies. Organized by specialist research firm FinTech Global, the list recognizes the most innovative tech companies helping financial institutions combat cyber threats, protect their data, and mitigate digital risks. xorlab defends organizations against cyber threats in Microsoft 365, Slack, or Confluence. Its machine-intelligent software understands human communication behaviour and relationships to uncover even the most sophisticated attacks, thus allowing security leaders to control the attack surface across tens of thousands of individual relationships in real-time. Major global banking, tech, and healthcare organizations rely on xorlab to protect their employees against ransomware, phishing, and fraud.

Hemotune | German Innovation Award | Germany
The category prize Medical Technologies of the German Innovation Award went to Hemotune, the startup fighting sepsis with the HemoSystem, a breakthrough blood purification platform with the first therapy to restore adequate immune response in sepsis-associated immunosuppression.

Agricircle | MyEUspace competition | Europe
MyEUSpace competition aims to support the development of innovative commercial solutions - such as mobile apps or hardware-based solutions - that leverage EU Space data from Galileo and/or Copernicus. One of the winners is Agricircle, an online cloud system that connects farmers and their farm data with their professional network.

Google for Startups Accelerator | Europe
Foodetective, the provider of a platform and operating system that enables food and beverage businesses to integrate & manage their entire tech stack and Realtyme, a data-secure communications platform enabling users to chat, call, meet and share, in total privacy have been selected for the first Google for Startups Accelerator program in Europe and Israel. The ten-week program offers intensive workshops and expert mentorship to help growth-stage startups learn technical, product and leadership best practices.  

ODDO BHF Young Entrepreneurs Awards
PostExo, Twiice (EPFL), Proteme, Rea (EPFL), und Broke & Abroad are the five startup winners of the first ODDO BHF YOUNG ENTREPRENEURS AWARDS (OYEA), organised by the independent European financial group ODDO BHF. The competition rewards and supports promising start-ups in France and Switzerland developed within the incubators of leading engineering and business schools or other non-academic incubators such as Station F, the Escalator or the Inartis Foundation.

The PRIX DE L'ENCOURAGEMENT awarded PostExo, incubated at L'Escalator. The startup democratizes tutoring by allowing any student to be accompanied by a teacher in a few minutes.

The PRIZE FOR SOCIETAL IMPACT went to Twiice, incubated at the Inartis Foundation and also from EPFL, which develops an exoskeleton for the lower limbs that allows people suffering from paraplegia to stand up and walk again.

The INNOVATION PRIZE was awarded to Proteme, incubated at X-Up (Polytechnique) and Food'Inn Lab (AgroParisTech), which is developing an ecological and edible food coating solution to extend the shelf life of fruits & vegetables.

The JURY'S SPECIAL PRIZE went to Rea Diagnostics, a company from EPFL and the developer of a wearable medical diagnostic technology for women, including a smart sanitary napkin that identifies biomarkers of premature birth.

The PUBLIC PRIZE, chosen by a public vote was awarded to Broke and Abroad, a company incubated at the Escalator and Station F, which democratizes vacations by finding offers and good deals for travel around the world.
