Five startups deemed ready for growth

Beyond the energy sector, sustainable practices such as the use of drones or robots can have a positive impact on a company’s bottom line. Five Swiss startups that have been making strides in supporting organisations to achieve these ambitions have been awarded the Innosuisse Certificate, demonstrating their readiness for growth.

Receiving the Innosuisse Certificate marks a significant milestone in a startup’s journey towards sustainable growth and underscores its readiness to expand its global reach. This recognition comes after completing the rigorous Innosuisse Core Coaching program. The following startups offering sustainable, robotics and drone technologies have been awarded the certificate over the past months.

CompPair Technologies | self-healing composites
Building on over 10 years of research in advanced composites, CompPair Technologies was founded in 2020 Amaël Cohades, Robin Trigueira and Prof. Véronique Michaud to promote circular economy practices through its patented novel self-repairing materials. Its HealTech technology enables ultra-fast, in-situ repair in just a couple of minutes while maintaining the material’s original properties. With three successful product lines, including prepregs and LCM processes, CompPair is making waves across diverse sectors, from sports and leisure to luxury, energy, industrial, and aerospace applications. Based in Lausanne with a team of 25 employees, the company has secured equity and non-dilutive funding and partnership deals including the Cassandra project funded by the European Space Agency.

Exnaton | enabling surplus energy-sharing
Incorporated in 2020 as a spin-off from ETH Zurich, Exnaton has rapidly established itself as a leader in renewable energy solutions, particularly through its software platform, PowerQuartier, which facilitates the sharing of surplus solar power among neighbours. Driven by a team of 25 employees, Exnaton has expanded its services to Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Luxembourg, supporting over 25 energy providers in efficiently managing complex energy data and offering innovative renewable energy products. The company has secured significant investment from prominent investors, including True Ventures from Silicon Valley and Übermorgen Ventures from Zurich.

Hydromea | underwater inspection robots
Hydromea is a leading robotics and communications company specializing in unique scalable subaquatic technologies supporting the energy transition in water-intensive industries, including offshore energy, power generation, hydropower, aquaculture, manufacturing, and research. Founded in 2014, the company develops products and solutions that allow customers to have autonomous high-speed and high-volume subsea data access in real-time.  With a strong focus on autonomy, efficient data harvesting and processing, Hydromea has currently built a portfolio of four products aiming to revolutionise submerged asset monitoring workflows and contribute to sustainable and efficient practices. The company serves some of the world’s leading organisations in the oil and gas industry, including TotalEnergies and formed partnerships with various organizations to validate and help scale the solution. Most recently the company entered the US market.

Tinamu Labs | autonomous indoor drones
Tinamu Labs is a pioneering ETH Zurich spin-off enabling drones to fly indoors autonomously without any need for a pilot or GPS. Leveraging computer vision, the company has built a platform of flexible sensors allowing the recurring capture of new digital data and monitoring within dusty and rough industrial environments. This solution solves a major industry problem – most stockpile inventories are done manually on paper, generating inaccuracy, errors and safety risks. TINAMU allows cost, resource and carbon emission savings through better production and logistics planning based on up-to-date inventory data; digital, safe and automated. The ETH spin-off continues to gain trust in various industries with customers such as Kibag, Nyrstar, a subsidiary of Trafigura, Axpo Tegra and Cotecna using its solutions for different applications. The company has a team of seven employees.

Nomady | Sustainable travel
Founded in 2020, Nomady is on a mission to provide sustainable camping experiences by connecting campers with private hosts offering unique nature-based accommodations. Its platform fosters sustainable tourism thereby promoting local economies and preserving natural spaces. It facilitates authentic camping experiences, allowing individuals to enjoy diverse lodging options such as cozy cabins, traditional tipis, and stylish yurts, often located in remote areas away from tourist hotspots. This approach not only enhances appreciation for local cultures and environments but also generates economic benefits for rural communities with minimal investment. With a team of ten employees, the startup has expanded its offering beyond Switzerland to countries such as Italy.  In January this year, Nomady announced a merger with MyCabin, a German counterpart, to enhance their service offerings by significantly increasing the number of available camping spots across Switzerland, Germany, and Austria.
