For the fourth year in a row Tech Tour, together with a Selection Committee of international investors, evaluated 280 European “super-scale ups” to choose 50 companies with the most promise to make a massive international impact. Super scale ups are private tech companies at a sub-one billion US dollar valuation growing revenues at greater than 50% per year. The Tech Tour Growth 50 (TTG50) aims not only to give a ranking, or construct an index, but to shed light on the European tech companies yet to achieve unicorn status as a demonstration of the strength and depth in technology companies in Europe.
The selected startups met the following Criteria: they are privately owned and have at least one independent investor, have generated more than €10 mil in revenue and over €20 mil in total funding, are equivalent to more than €100mil valuation and they have reached more than a minimum revenue growth per annum on average over the last 3 years; that is 80% for companies with €10-30mil in revenues and 50% for companies with €30-100mil in revenues.
This year Switzerland has broken a record: With four startups on the list, Switzerland has for the first time had a strong representation. This won the country the fourth position in Europe, right behind France (7), Germany (8) and the UK (16).
Swiss companies on the list include:
Ava – Developed a wearable medical device designed to be used for monitoring a woman's fertility and menstrual cycle. With more than 50 employees, Ava has raised a total of $12.4m in funding.
Beqom – Provides a cloud based compensation management software designed to address all aspects of compensation and performance. Beqom has till date raised $35.9m and employs 110 people.
