The W.A. de Vigier Foundation has published a shortlist of sixteen startups that will compete for the 2017 W. A. de Vigier Award. The Jury will evaluate the startups basing on their products and for the first time, all CEOs will undergo a leadership assessment. “In the selection process we focus more on the personality of a startup CEO. From this year on we also want to check aspects like leadership, team management and entrepreneurship, and give effective feedback in this area”, says Regula Buob, the managing director of the W.A. de Vigier foundation. Five winners will be determined and awarded a cash prize of CHF 100’000 each during the award ceremony on 18 May 2017.
The selected startups include:
Vibwife GmbH(medtech), Nidau: designed a mattress-system that actively mobilizes and supports women during natural birth.
4D Lifetec (biotech), Cham: developed ascreening method that makes pre-screenings of large populations possible focuses on personalized therapies for affected patients.
Elthera AG (biopharmaceutical), Zug: Elthera developed an antibody against aggressive tumors.
Cutiss (biotech) from Zurich): CUTISS is developing personalized skin grafts for patients that suffer from skin defects.
Optimo Medical AG (Medtech), Biel: Optimo Medical developed “Optimeyes” technology to make surgical procedures on the human cornea safer and more precise.
Ophtorobotics AG (medtech), Zurich: Ophthorobotics is developing the world’s first automated system for safer and higher precision in Eye injections.
certus diagnostics AG (biotech), Zollikofen: Certus developed the isoAMP, a methodfor fast on-site detection of pathogens such as herpes or influenza viruses within only 30 minutes.
Aspivix AG (medtech), Lausanne: The startup has developed “ASPIVIX”, a single-use simple suction pad technology for tenaculum to minimise pain for the women during the gynecologist’s visit.
MaxWell Biosystems AG (ICT), Basel: MaxWell develops and distributes the advanced electrophysiology cell-imaging platform for high-throughput assays to accelerate drug development.
Privately AG (ICT), Lausanne: the startup developed a personal online-safety assistant “OYOTY” to make surfing the internet safer for kids.
Smart Security Systems AG (ICT), Lausanne: The startup develops a blockchain-based platform that allows secure recording, storage and management of data using smart sensors for the Food Industry.
Skypull (cleantech), Lugano: Skypull is a lightweight and compact wind-based electricity generation system that can be deployed on a much wider range of locations to generate more renewable power that is twice as efficient as conventional wind turbines.
CyanoGuard AG (Foodtech), Schlieren: established as a spinoff of the University of Zurich, CyanoGuard developed innovative rapid tests for the reliable detection of toxins and harmful substances in waste products of the chemical industry, in food and blood.
IRsweep AG (medtech), Zurich: IRsweep created a spectrometer which combines high measuring speed and brightness in an unprecedented manner.
Cortexia AG (ICT), Châtel-St-Denis: Cortexia offers a management tool which delivers objective data on urban cleanliness using intelligent cameras.
Coat-X AG (micro-nanotechnology), La-Chaux-de-Fonds: Coat-X developed a unique encapsulation technology for the protection of medical devices, electronics and sensors against corrosion.
