The Climathon hackathon is taking place in more than 110 cities all over the world. All events are dedicated to creating climate action in the form of tangible projects, supporting climate positive ideas, startups and businesses, and addressing local policy changes. Besides Zürich, Impact Hub is also organizing Climathons in Basel, Geneva, and Lausanne. Participants can apply with an existing idea, startup, or find an inspiring team of developers, entrepreneurs, or students at the event itself. During the hackathon, experts and coaches will be on-site to support the development of the participants’ project. The best solutions will get the chance to be further developed with the support of the city Zürich, Impact Hub Zürich and this year's Zürich Climathon Partners. Worldwide, teams with the most inspiring ideas will have the chance to present themselves at the CHANGE NOW Summit in Paris 2020. Focus areas: Applicants in Zürich can apply for the following three challenges:1. How might we activate Zürich's citizens to be part of the solution? Solutions should focus on communication and action campaigns. More importantly, they should be unique and energizing. 2. How can we create a restful, edible city and take care of it as a self-organized communitySolutionsSolutions could focus on the combination of urban spaces and urban farming activities in a community-run system: What are the needs of the citizens? How can we implement the needs What are realistic spaces for co-using and what are the synergies in relation to climate, co2 etc. How do other cities approach this topic How do these types of urban farming look like? New forms of production How does a sustainable community look like (organization, self-organized, bottom-up or top-down) 3. How can urban heat islands be prevented in Zürich? Solutions Which existing green spaces are important for Zürich residents today How can we optimize these current areas Can more green spaces be made available for the public How would you design new green areas?
